In every month of September, the city government of Vigan once again celebrated the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE CITIES SOLIDARITY CULTURAL FESTIVAL. Vigan City was the only heritage city in the Philippines who joins the entire heritage cities of the world in this celebration. Since December 1999, it is celebrating its being a cultural property of the world.
Solidarity is the unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest, mutual support within a group. In this celebration, there are lots of activities that Biguenos are participating. They participate through singing competitions, zarzuela Ilocana (Ilocano stage play), photography, dallot (a part of the Ilocano oral tradition of debate through singing), sabayang pagbigkas (speech choir), daniw (poetry), and a lot more. There are solidarity food in which you can taste the diferrent foods and also trade fair in which you can buy plants, furnitures, and many more.
This celebration is important because it can aim to reawaken and to make or become stronger cultural activities as well as promote and set up the young generation's responsibility in the conservation of our tangible and intangible heritage.
